Purchased by the Raven's Nest from Nathan Lefthand in 2026. Tufa casting is a traditional Southwestern technique where molten silver or gold is poured into a hand carved tufa stone (compressed volcanic ash) to create a one of a kind piece of piece of work. Nathan Lefthand was born on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona and was brought up around Navajo silversmiths, as it was the primary way of earning a living for many, during the big turquoise boom of the 1970s. He does all of the silver work on his pieces by hand as well as lapidary work from time to time. To read more about his journey as a maker, follow the "artist" tab on our website.
