Vintage jewelry, from every era we can get our hands on.

Most of what's in our cases at The Raven's Nest wasn't made this year, or last year, or even in this century. We lean vintage because vintage pieces already have a story — an Old European Cut diamond from 1912 has been in someone's family for a hundred years before it lands here.

That's what we look for, and it's most of what you'll find in Pike Place Market on any given day.

What we mean by "vintage" and "antique."

The terms aren't as fixed as people think. In our shop, we treat pieces made twenty to ninety-nine years ago as vintage — roughly 1930s through the mid-2000s. Anything older than a hundred years is antique — Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and earlier.

Both live side by side in the cases. Both come with the same Record of Provenance that stays with the piece — a research summary of what we've been able to learn about its history.

Why we lean vintage

Vintage isn't nostalgia — it's what the pieces actually are.

An Old European Cut diamond has a fire that modern round-brilliant cuts don't quite reproduce. The crown is higher, the culet is open, the facets were hand-cut by a person a hundred years ago. It plays with light in a way a machine-cut stone doesn't.

Vintage rings often have settings you can't buy new because the labor that made them isn't in the market anymore. Vintage sapphires come from mines that were exhausted decades ago. Vintage gold work tends to be heavier than what's produced today because it wasn't optimized for margins.

None of that makes vintage inherently better than new. It makes it different. That difference is usually why someone walks into the shop looking for one.

Estate sales, family collections, dealers we've worked with for years, and the occasional walk-in. Every piece is vetted before it goes in the case — hallmarks checked, stones tested, provenance researched as far as it's knowable.

Some pieces we know the exact history of. Others we know the century and the region, and we're honest about the difference. We won't pretend to know more than we do.
